    Introduction About E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS

    E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS contains a medicine called Chloramphenicol which belongs to the group of medicine called Antibiotics. It is used for the management of acute bacterial conjunctivitis.

    Bacterial conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye or Madras eye. Conjunctivitis is an infection of the outer surfaces of the eye. The infected eye will have redness, discomfort, itching, sticky discharge or gritty in the eyes.

    Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, and heart problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.

    The common side effect of this medicine is stinging or burning in and around the eyes. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen or persist for a longer duration.

    How E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS Works

    E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS belongs to an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria that cause eye infections. It does so by managing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. This does not directly remove the bacteria but manages them from increasing in numbers and eventually clears up the eye infection.

    How to use E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS

    Always use the E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS as prescribed by the doctor. It is for ophthalmic use only. Check the label for directions before use.

    Side Effects Of E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS

    Common

    • stinging or burning in and around the eyes
    • irritation, swelling, watery eyes or sensitivity to light

    Rare

    Contact your doctor immediately, if you have,

    • wheeziness (shortness of breath), fever, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, throat, neck, itching or rash with swelling of the skin
    • sore throat, bruising or being unable to overcome an infection
    • changes in blood cells causing severe tiredness or easy bruising
    • eyesight problems
    • tiredness, headaches, fever, severe chills, bleeding or bruising more easily than normal, nosebleeds
    • drop in blood pressure
    • feeling generally weak and tired or another infection or easy bleeding or bruising

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve or worsen.

    E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS may cause blurred vision, avoid driving and handling of heavy machines unless their vision is clear.

    Allergy

    Do not use this medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Chloramphenicol or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    It is not recommended for use if you:

    • have blood disorder
    • have bone marrow disease including anaemia (symptoms such as tiredness, unusual bruising or increase in the number of infections)
    • wear contact lenses

    Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have:

    • visual disturbances
    • severe pain in the eye
    • sensitive eye reactions

    E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS should be used with caution in children. Consult your doctor before using this medicine.

    Use in geriatrics:

    E D PHENICOL EYE CAPS should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before receiving this medicine.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Inform your physician if you are taking,

    • methotrexate (used to manage cancer)
    • azathioprine (used for the immune system)
    • chymotrypsin (used as a dietary supplement)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of this medicine, you should wash your eye with plenty of water, if any painful symptoms continue after this, consult your doctor immediately.
